COMPETITION INFORMATION

WHAT TO KNOW...

The NIU College of Business is inviting area high schools to participate in our annual High School Ethics Case Competition. In this competition, teams of high school students are given a case study (a few weeks in advance of the event) where a company/individual/group has behaved in an ethically questionable manner. The case is ranges to about two to three pages in length and poses an open-ended ethical question. Teams must read and research the case, develop a position on it, and create a slideshow to present to a panel of judges. Teams then defend their position through a round of questioning from judges. Each presentation will be scored and compared to other teams’ scores. Winners will advance to a final round and a champion will be selected. The judging panel consists of NIU faculty and distinguished NIU alumni.

Ethical case competitions provide important developmental opportunities for students. Not only do they sharpen their ethical awareness, they also allow students to practice many skills that are beneficial toward success in the business world, including presentation development, public speaking and thinking on their feet.
